Fresh Movie Review: One of the cardinal rules when making a movie about a superhero, especially one nobody has heard, is not to make the integrity of history will depend on the existence of a sequel. Unfortunately, that's a rule that director Doug Liman breaks. If the viewer is able to ignore the performance of wood, Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson, what's on screen is fine, and sometimes even exciting. But there is no resolution. Storyline three wires are left dangling. Ponticello feels like a 90-minute tease. Viewers are left waiting for what comes next and, unless there is a follow-up (which seems unlikely), which dangling continue for all time. The film is surprisingly short, could not other 15 minutes were spent giving some ambiguities and to provide a sense of closure which otherwise is absent? Indeed, Liman should know better. He helm The Bourne Identity, which became the first of three interconnected Bourne productions. Liman and his scriptwriters approached The Bourne Identity as a stand-alone with the potential for expansion. This is not the case here. Consistency requires a second instalment, but there is nothing in the film of race, marketing, or pre-box office projections indicate that it will generate enough support to ask a follow-up. As a result, all pay $ 10 to see Jumper will do what Golden Compass supporters were forced to: read the books to see if things go next (and ignore the inevitable gap between screenplay and novel). What makes it to the screen is often amusing. Liman apply the same approach to the frenetic action scenes that made The Bourne Identity this engaging and exciting affair. There's a lot of cutting during the climatic battle sequences, but it makes sense to look at what's happening. Liman limits and its use of nausea potentially lead to hand strokes a couple of cases. Jumper is clean, clear, and spare parts, missing only a semi-satisfying end. The film best scenes are the first ones for two reasons. First, when it comes to superhero "stories of origin," the most enjoyable parts are usually those in which the protagonist explores its power. This is the fun and wonder is, as the hero begins to understand the pros and cons of capacity that the series him / her apart from everyone else. Secondly, the actors playing teenagers versions of the characters are more credible and likeable than those who carry out their adult counterparts. AnnaSophia Robb (A Bridge to Terabithia) and Max Thieriot (The Astronaut Farmer) outact Bilson and Christensen of that stretch that sucks energy and life from movies when they are replaced. The film opens in Ann Arbor, where a socially awkward high school student, David Rice (Thieriot) tries to give a sign of his affection for the girl next door of his dreams, Millie (Robb). Disastrously goes wrong when a bully gets his hands on the snow globe for Millie and launches over a river with ice. The attempt to recover it, David goes under, but rather than perish in a watery grave, he spontaneously teleports in the library of Ann Arbor. By allowing everyone to believe him to be dead, including his abusive, alcoholic father (Michael Rooker), David teleportation hones his skills until he can travel freely almost anywhere. To get a little 'money, he robs a bank, and this is what brings him to the attention of Roland NSA agent (Samuel L. Jackson) who do not like "jumper". Progressing rapidly the best part of a decade. David (Christensen) is now an adult and is well adapted to a life of privilege and luxury. But it alone and returned to Ann Arbor to locate Millie (Bilson). Reunion their results in a whirlwind romance and a trip to Rome. While Millie begins to suspect there is something strange about David, and David learns is not unique. He knows Griffin (Jamie Bell), who informs him is in the midst of a secular war between "jumper" and "champions" and is kill-or-be-killed. Roland, it seems, is a fanatic who will destroy anyone and anything that is between him and putting a knife in a jumper the heart. The film of standards for jumpers are intentionally left out clearly that the film can play with them as history evolves. It is not like in The Time Traveler's Wife, however, where travellers are restricted from doing anything, including clothing, with them. The concept of war between jumpers and champions is left half-explained and underexplored. I kept thinking of hatred between werewolves and vampires in the film Underworld. If there is a rich religious mythology behind this fight, it never makes it to the screen. Finally, there is a sense of a missed opportunity as far as the relationship between David and Millie. The failure is both one of the screenplay, which relegates Millie in the role of a property more of a character, and the actors, none of which is able to imbue her character with a real sense of humanity. Christensen has enough highlights on an irregular return to convince me, can act, but lazy performance of this kind will not make him someone to watch. I was intrigued enough by mid-explored ideas and unresolved plot threads that I want to see a sequel Jumper - not one I expect to be produced. The concepts and premises are more promise of what is delivered to the screen, but is not a unique quality Jumper. As long as the viewer understands that there is a lot left open when the credits roll, the movie is able to detour for the better part of one and half hours.
